Week of December 2, 2019

On December 2, 2019 - Project “Heat the Gîtes” begins today! It is just in time. When Ben arrived yesterday it was 7 degrees inside our gite (44 degrees Fahrenheit). It takes hours, sometimes days for the wood burner to heat it to a place where you don’t see your breath and have to wear a coat in the house. This is major progress. This opens the door to us being able to start proper renovations on the stable block. It also means we are one step closer to moving in to the Chateau.

On December 3, 2019 - New pipe work and flue. It’s had to go right up through the toilet room in the 2 bedroom gîte. Fortunately it was really oversized because it catered for wheelchair users. Not sure if this renders the loo unusable or if a flue can be boxed in or put behind a false wall.... or if it will be a sweat box and we should turn it into a sauna.

Peter and Ben have removed the Chandelier. Peter is creating a template of the dome so that he can create an accurate sample of the masterpiece that will one day take its place at the center of the ballroom.

On December 4, 2019 - Boiler connected up and the chimney being installed... closer to heat...

Boiler and radiators full, pressurised and not leaking ...

Peter is testing out some areas which will be gilded...a hive of activity at CJB!

The flue is finished... next step is to fire her up!

Amazing what a little gold leaf can do...

Till next week!
