Week of August 24, 2020

Updated: Dec 17, 2021

On August 24, 2020 - This is what was used to heat the chateau back in the day. They think they could actually get it to work! We won’t be trying that but the good news is that Freddy Kruger wasn’t hiding inside! It burned wood and oil.

On August 25, 2020 - I’ve claimed one of the caves for myself. It will become our bar in the fullness of time. We’ve painted the ceiling and knocked the plaster off the wall. We will need to repoint some of it and then we need to apply something to keep the dust down. I’ve been looking at transparent PVA which is difficult to find in our part of France. Soon to be La Salle sur Demande!

On August 26, 2020 - Project “Turn the Water On” continues. Since we’ve turned the water on, we are up to 28 leaks from 4. Every time one is fixed the water finds the next weakest link. We’ve found copper pipe that is light as air when you hold it because of how worn through they are. We are fixing a temporary circuit to be able to get water on in here permanently. This is a monumental task. But not a mistake!

On August 28, 2020 - Before and afters of the new front door of our gîte. It’s a good way to end these last two weeks of renovation work. It was super hard work (not the door- a brilliant carpenter made that) but super gratifying. I don’t know when we will be back but we are leaving CJB with her faithful guardians and a new bad ass lock.

Til next week!
